The Prediction - it's a slipperly little beastie

Why, hello again. More words from the past coming to greet you. Hope that everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend and that you were able to have some fun with 'squid'.   Now, if everything went to plan then we had a winner announced for last week. If said writer would be so kind, do let everyone know who you thought was the outstanding entry this week. As I said last week, no obligation but would be nice if you could.   If we had no winner announced then such is life and you shall still have your new words.   Further to last week's newspaper stories about a strange beastie causing havoc on the moors, there are unconfirmed rumours of an actual attack! Etched into the victim's body were three simple words : Post Shield Immoral   The usual rules apply: 100 words maximum, excluding the title, of flash fiction or poetry using all of the three words above in the genres of horror, fantasy or science fiction. All variants and use of the words as stem

The Prediction - you can bank on it!

Greetings all, Phil here speaking from the past! I hope that you have been treating The Prediction well in my absence. If I am right in my planning then this week should be bank holiday in Britain so an extra day of writing to be had. It will be raining anyway!!!   Now, if everything went to plan then we had a winner announced for last week. If said writer would be so kind, do let everyone know who you thought was the outstanding entry this week. As I said last week, no obligation but would be nice if you could.   If we had no winner announced then such is life and you shall still have your new words.   There have been stories in the papers of a vicious, leather clad beast roaming the moors, muttering strange words. Now the words drifted to me in my sleep by some unholy union and they sounded like : Ration Squid Flatter Oooh, squid looks like it could be nasty but I am sure you will all come up with amazing takes on that trio.   The usual rules apply: 100

The Prediction - over to you

Ok, as I forewarned a couple of weeks back, I won't be able to comment on the Prediction entries for a few weeks. Wait, I hear you cry, what does that mean for us? Well, dear friends, I am handing the asylum over to the inmates (so to speak). Whilst I will cunningly arrange for new words to appear every Thursday evening after each Prediction closes I cannot fulfil my role as judge. Solution, this week's winner will choose next week's winner(s) and runner-up(s). No obligation to comment on all entries, just to say who you felt was best. Post your winner, etc in the comments section (and preferably on the Friday if you can). Then that week's winner chooses the winner for the next week. If the winner is unable to choose for that week then no worries - there will still be words for everyone to play with, after all that's the fun of this right! Hope that's all clear and I'll resume judging duties for the Prediction the week which ends Thurs 13 September.

The Prediction - listen up!

Hear ye, hear ye! Listen up one and all. For those of you that don't know, I podcast on the Geek Syndicate network with Dion and a couple of others. As part of a Geek to Geek special the lovely Lily Childs , the wonderful Dion Winton-Polak and my good self had a good old natter about Flash Fiction. You can hear the edited version on Geek to Geek here http://geeksyndicate.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/geek-to-geek-issue-5/  about 57 minutes in and also hear Matt Farr, Keehar and I discuss horror about 1 hour 39 minutes in Both are well worth a listen and you get to hear what we all sound like!   A longer version of the flash discussion will be released later on Scrolls with Dion, Lily and I reading some of our favourite flash which includes some of the works to grace The Prediction. I'll let you know when it's out.   Right, to my winners for this week.   First spot goes to the is Marietta Miles  with her Untitled piece. Marietta - there was such a dark lunacy runn

The Prediction - planning ahead

Before I announce this week's winners, a little heads up for everyone. In a couple of weeks I'm going to have to duck out of judging for about three 'rounds'. Rather than halt The Predicition over that time I have come up with a cunning plan. The winner of each week will judge the following week's winner and runner(s)-up until I can resume my duties. I will pre-choose the words and set Blogger to auto-post for 9.01pm each Thursday (ain't technology clever) so that will all be taken care of. The 'judge' will announce the winners as soon as they can in the comments box. Hopefully that all makes sense but will explain more the week it kicks off. Right, to this week's winners.   My winner this week is John Xero with Savage . John - this was a story which just drew me in from the off. Great world building in so few words and I was instantly wanting our 'tribe' to best the goblins. Throwing in the werewolf was great but even better was the us
