The Woods makes Ginger Nuts of Horror's Books of the Year part 1

Absolutely delighted that The Woods has made Ginger Nuts of Horror's Books of the Year Part 1. I've been fortunate enough to makes Jim McLeod's list of best books in previous years but this is the first time as editor of an anthology.

The Woods contains superb stories from Cate Gardner, James Everington, Mark West and Penny Jones alongside an offering from me. I loved each and every story sent to me and it was wonderful to work with such talented writers.

Plus a huge thanks to Peter Mark May for asking me to helm this for his Hersham Horror Books imprint and his coming up with the theme.

Here is a link to Jim's Books of the Year Part 1. There's some fabulous works on there showing just how strong horror is currently as a genre. Very much looking forward to seeing what else Jim has picked out for his next selections.

The Prediction - getting the chills

It's starting to get a bit cold outside, I'm having to scrape frost off the car of a morning and there are definitely a few more layers going on before I step out. And yet the weather doesn't chill me half as much as the tales which you lay at my door every week. Speaking of tales, a while back I started up a collaborative chain story on here called Hunted . With the site design it rapidly fell down the pages until a brainwave hit me! I have now put a permanent link to the story on the right hand menu. Take a look and add to the story as you see fit. Marietta has added another twist to the tale just this week. Really want to see where you all take us with it. Now on to this week's judging. The Prediction - It's getting hot in here!

Wow, the temperature has been rising and I'm not talking about the weather! Some sizzling entries for last week's Prediction even with that curve ball of a word Cockle. Hoping that the book is a bit kinder this week. Yet that didn't disturb our intrepid Predictioneers and you left me with a headache, a very welcome headache, in my debut week as judge, jury and executioner due to the quality of writing throughout. Anyway, you don't want to hear me prattle on, you want to know who the inaugural winner of Phlambler's Prediction is. So, after much deliberation, let me put you out of your misery. My winner is Veronica Marie Lewis-Shaw  with her entry which was literally To Die For .
